For hundreds of years, bier drinkers were in the dark.
In 1842 in the town of Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, a brewmaster named Grolle ended the reign of the Dark Bier Age. Using the distinctive Czech Saaz hop and pale malt, he brewed the very first pale-colored bier. Although surprised by its golden-straw color, his fellow townsfolk immediately took to the lager's unique aromatic hop and smooth malt flavor. Widmer's new Czech Pilsner echos the simple, elegant spirit that began the Renaissance. We bottom-ferment and cold-condition long enough to bring out the pale softness of malt character with an aggressive Saaz hop flavor. A crisp, clear lager with a bold hop finish. The first bier to see the light.
