Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer founded Widmer Brothers Brewing Company in 1984. For more than 12 years, the Widmer brothers have created deliciously original biers and overseen the entire brewing process from fresh grains to finished biers.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company brews unique and authentic German-style biers. After living in Germany and enjoying fine German biers in the 1970s, Kurt Widmer returned to Portland, Oregon, with a mission to create American interpretations of authentic German bier styles. His search for an original bier experience led Kurt back to a brewery in DŸsseldorf, where he studied recipes of that famous brewing center. Widmer's special brewing yeast was obtained from the world-renowned Brewing Research Institute in Weihenstephan, Bavaria. This special yeast has been maintained at Widmer's brewery for the past 12 years, and is an important part of the Widmer brewing process.
Widmer uses traditional German Altbier brewing techniques with it's special Altbier yeast and fresh Northwest ingredients. The Altbier brewing style Widmer uses is a hybrid process, combining ale and lager brewing techniques. Widmer biers are top fermented like ales, and cold conditioned like lagers, resulting in a rich, smooth, refreshingly original taste.
America's Original Hefeweizen¨ is an excellent example of the Widmer brothers' success with their uncommon brewing process. The brothers pioneered Hefeweizen bier in America in 1986 and America's Original Hefeweizen¨ has grown in popularity over the past decade. This golden, cloudy Widmer bier is kegged and bottled directly from the lagering tank and is not filtered, leaving Widmer's special yeast suspended in the bier. Widmer's Hefeweizen has been Oregon's top-selling draught microbrew for over six years. Its tempting appearance and aroma combined with its robust taste and texture have distinguished America's Original Hefeweizen¨ as a Widmer classic.
Widmer Brothers Brewing Company currently
produces a line of seven original German-style biers year-round. These offerings include America's Original Hefeweizen¨, Blackbier

VIENNA Ð Over 150 years ago in Vienna, a man named Anton Dreher produced a masterpiece. It wasn't a symphony or a waltz or a mural.
